On my way to the Camino del Norte

Having survived all the Ryanair merchandise - we all want to save money to buy more icecream - I landed in Santander.  One businessman, eight priority passengers, and then the other sheep come out of the plane.
The low cost carriers are reshaping the map of Europe- these are new destinations.

Coming into Santander you will pass two Spitfires. And suddenly that makes me long for the reckless times gone by. I already get nervous when I see the pilot walking around the plane, hands in his pockets, whistling: this will not be the safety inspection I hope.. But no, all is organised well, including the anti-terrorism control, the last danger Europe is facing.

Those Spitfires- such a fragile machine, no comfort, no safety protection. What a courage to fly over Germany in wartime with such a plane.
What does it do to us, this safety evolution? Where do men stil have to proof themselves? Will there ever be war again?

So, a philosophical start of my Camino. Will it be safe, will there be danger? A first price has been paid: Ryanair charged me heavily for my long walking stick. Unthinkable not to have it with me.
